What goes wrong when you book it yourself

  • The Uffizi. The reservation fee is about four euros. In July it is the difference between walking in at your time and standing on Piazzale degli Uffizi for two hours.
  • Florence's cupola. The dome climb is a separate timed ticket from the cathedral, capped per slot, and it goes days before the rest of the complex does.
  • The Alhambra. Your ticket prints a half-hour window for the Nasrid Palaces. Arrive after it and you are not admitted — to the palaces, on a ticket you bought three months ago.
  • The Anne Frank House. Tickets are sold online only, released on a schedule, and there is no counter to try. Miss the release and the house is simply not available to you that week.
  • London's big museums. Free to enter — and where one is offered, the free timed ticket costs nothing and is still the difference between walking in and the queue on the pavement. Checking is a two-minute job nobody does.
  • Petra by Night. It runs three evenings a week, not every evening. Two nights in Petra can easily be the wrong two.

Each one is the venue’s own published policy. We confirm yours against them before anything is booked in your name.

The upgrade is never priced here. It is “when available”, so putting a number on it would bill you for something that may not happen.
